Wednesday - Deb's Post

Sorry we didn’t get a post done yesterday! Can you believe we were too busy?! We are really focusing on our little girl!

Shawn has a post about our outing so I'll let him post that with pics.

Here’s Deb’s diary for Wednesday. (At this point I feel like this is more like a journal for us to remember what happened and share with Sophie someday, but you are welcome to read along!)
It is so hard to see this little girl grieve. I just feel so sad for her. And I know that if she could understand us it would be so different. But then I wonder if it would be as easy to be so patient with her if she COULD understand but didn’t obey! We just continue to try to show her love.
After a major meltdown yesterday, I had Shawn and Jake leave the room. At that point my mommy instinct was to give Jake a break.  I held her (she was not so willing, but she succumbed. I prayed out loud for her and for God to direct me and guide me on what to do. Eventually I started singing Hokey Pokey and doing the motions to her legs. She stopped crying.  We played beauty salon where she brushed and blow dried my hair and then I did hers! We danced and sang and colored with markers. The girl likes to color. Thank God. Something to do on the plane! Her meltdown turned into some precious one on one bonding time. Praise God!
I had found the sunglasses I had brought for her (which by the way, at least this week, you don’t need ever in Nanchang!) She loved wearing them. She had previously tried on my reading glasses. When Shawn and Jake came back into the room, Jake joined us and we did the Hokey Pokey for Babba to videotape! Priceless!
Since we would be gone all day visiting the orphanage in Heng Feng tomorrow, I started to pack all the clothes that we’d already worn into one suitcase. She got the clue. She started packing all her belongings, the water bottles, anything we didn’t say no to! She helped me pack the gift for her foster grandma.  She amazes us with what she knows how to do. She can tie a slip knot as fast as I can, maybe faster!
