Jiangxi Civil Affairs

This morning after breakfast we went with Mary , our guide, across the street to do official paperwork at the Jiangxi Civil Affairs. How convenient, right? Just across the street? So it's raining like crazy. No problem, we brought umbrellas, well, one didn't work. But, we are at a 5 star hotel so they give you an umbrella to use!

We had heard how crazy the traffic in China is. Now I've experienced it. I will tell you I'd rather be in a van than be a pedestrian! We had to cross 6 lanes of traffic with buses, cars, vans and scooters all vying for the same space. There are marked cross walks but they mean nothing. NO ONE stops for a pedestrian.

Anyway, we got interviewed about why we were adopting and one of the questions was what were are education plans for Sophie. So we told her about homeschooling. She was very curious and asked lots of questions and I ended up giving her a lot of info about homeschooling!

So we left the interview and went to a room with lots of babies! There were at least 7 babies from the traditional Chinese adoption program there with us. They had all waited 5 years for their referrals.
Here is a pic of Jake and Sophie in the "waiting room".

After about an hour, we were crossing the street again, returning to the hotel and this afternoon we had to go to the notary and the police station.

Shawn wants to post about our trip to Walmart. I go there all the time, so no big deal! :)

We will work to fulfill your photo requests! It just didn't happen today!

  1. Oh, yay! I've been checking my computer all day wondering how your Monday went. I love the photo of Jake and Sophie in the "waiting room". I'm sure Sophie loves having her big brother there with her as she is getting to know you.
